Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. We have 166 units within our four properties. If you are interested in applying for public housing, contact the Housing Authority, City of Oneonta’s Administrative Office at the address or telephone number indicated on the Website. Applications are also available to be printed from our website but must be returned in person or by mail only.

Section 8 / HCV

Section 8 is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the Housing Authority, City of Oneonta. The Authority operates the program in Blount County and assists lower-income families or individuals. The Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Program is a rental assistance program that helps families or individuals rent units in the private rental market. Any person, 19 years or older, or a family with a yearly income lower than the amount set by HUD may be eligible.

The Housing Representative will check the following annually, or more often if needed:

  •  Household income, family composition, and eligibility
  •  Proposed rent
  •  Condition of property and level of maintenance
  •  Willingness of tenant and landlord to stay in the program
